We recently came across a brass ashtray w/ considerable patina, therefore leading us to believe that it is OLD! Question, does it have value and how old is it really? Any ashtray experts out there?
It is cast brass w/ an image described as “La Cathedrale D’Anvers” and on the back it says “DEPOSE T-5” or perhaps “J-5”???

Your ashtray depicts the West facade of Notre-Dame d’Anvers in Belgium.
The spelling La Cathedrale D’Anvers is French and the DEPOSE is Frech for Registered. So I would say it is French made. Wish I could say how old or valuable.
You ask why would France make something with cathedral in Belgium.
They are neighbors, other than that I couldn’t tell you. The word DEPOSE is sometimes also found on German items. Germany also being a neighbor of France and Belgium.

Well, now, that’s more than I knew 10 minutes ago! I had found that definition of “depose”. Thank you! So does it make sense that it was made in France? But why would France be registering a design of a cathedral in Belgium?
