Measures 5-9/32" X 7-5/8", 55+ pp, b&w illustrations by MICHAEL SPORN, written by John Gardner, stated "Bantam Skylark edition / February 1978" and " 0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1," published by Bantam Books (NY), Bantam trade paperback #15021-9.

John Gardner, author of such outstanding adult moral fables as THE SUNLIGHT DIALOGUES and OCTOBER LIGHT, also wrote three books of "new" fairy tales, allegedly for children ("10 and up," the flyleaf states).  But Gardner's fairy tales may be considered too overwritten for young children, and perhaps too violent and sarcastic; so I consider Gardner's "new" fairy tales to be for more mature young people, and adults who enjoy a grim (rather than Grimm) sense of humor.  Stories in this (his second) collection include:  GUDGEKIN THE THISTLE GIRL; THE GRIFFIN AND THE WISE OLD PHILOSOPHER; THE SHAPE-SHIFTERS OF SHORM; and THE SEAGULLS.

Shipping charges include postage (including USPS Tracking on domestic shipments), packaging materials, labor and fuel (the nearest post office is 14 MILES away!); but I do combine shipping charges on multiple items -- so fill up that cart NOW an' save some $$$!
