Hwagak haem is a traditional Korean craft that involves painting on transparent sheets made from ox horn. Due to the scarcity of tortoise shells in Korea, ox horns were used for craft work for royal families and aristocrats. This box features a hinged lid with a metal turtle clasp and scalloped metalwork on the corners and deep interiors lined with silk. The four side panels and four top panels of this gorgeous box are all hand painted with beautiful scenes. Measures Approximately 4” Wide x 5"Tall ( including top). Excellent Pre-owned Condition.
