Original 1819 US Army Document Signed Paymaster Light Artillery, Issued to 2nd Lieut John A Webber of the US Light Artillery. Webber was a 1815 graduate of West Point. He resigned in 1825 and passed away in 1855. It lists a black servant for Webber and mentions he was last paid by Charles Talmadge in 1818. Webber signed it lower right.
Navy Paymaster Officer Charles B. Tallmadge (1792-1832). This is an old United States Army document, dated 1818/1819. The document is concerned with payment made upon discharge to a soldier 2nd Lieutenant named John A. Webb? and his black servant. It is signed by Charles B. Tallmadge, who was Paymaster of the United States Light Artillery and the 2nd Lieutenant. Charles Benjamin Tallmadge (1792-1832) was appointed an assistant district paymaster in 1814, and served as paymaster beginning in 1818. He was still in the army as of 1828, and was based in New York at that time. Tallmadge appears to have been in Hardenbergh's New York Militia at one time.
