Gillmore started acting in silent films when she was sixteen, played Mrs. Darling in the Broadway and televised versions of PETER PAN with Mary Martin, had a long Broadway theater career, was also featured in major films and television, and was a member of the famous Algonquin table. This memoir tells the behind the scenes story of THE BARRETTS OF WIMPOLE STREET overseas productions, entertaining the battle-worn soldiers, and traveling from town to town, and from camp to camp. Katherine Cornell was the famous star of the traveling acting company. Included are anecdotal stories of visits with soldiers, General Mark Clark, General Giraud, author Gertrude Stein in Paris, and so much more. Upper spine edge lightly bumped, some age-toning to the end-papers as usual, else very good in bright yellow linen with black embossed titles to the spine; in a slightly soiled very good dust jacket with some fading to the spine panel, a half-inch piece from the upper spine end, a chip to the upper edge of the front panel, and some edge tears and tiny edge-nicks; original $2.50 price still intact to the front inner flap.
