About The Record:

Bobby G. Rice began his chart career with a string of countrified covers of classic rock & roll hits, but his roots were in hardcore hillbilly music as shown on the back cover of this 1976 greatest-hits album. The 1940s-era photo of Rice with his family's band, the Ridge Ramblers, many not reflect the contemporary country sound of his '70s hits, but it certainly is an interesting slice of history. Rice enjoyed several major country hits in the early '70s on the Metromedia and GRT labels, and Instant Rice: The Best of Bobby G rounds up most of them. His biggest hit, You Lay So Easy on My Mind, is a Freddie Hart-style ballad, but Freda Comes, Freda Goes is something completely different -- a vaguely Caribbean sounding cut with vibes and horns that Lee Hazlewood co-wrote. Covers of classic country songs such as Pick Me Up on Your Way Down and Wanda Jackson's Right or Wrong round out the package. Chart hits comprise all but three of the album's cuts, making this a true greatest-hits collection.
