La parte frontal: San Benito se muestra en el centro de la medalla, en su mano derecha sostiene una cruz, la cruz representa el poder salvador de Cristo y la obra de la evangelizacion por los benedictinos largo de los siglos; en su mano izquierda sostiene un libro que contiene la Santa Regla de su orden, a su derecha hay una copa rota, se decía que había sido envenenada por unos monjes rebeldes que no estaban a gusto con San Benito, la copa se rompio cuando San Benito hizo una señal de la cruz sobre ella y le salvo la vida; a su izquierda hay un cuervo, el cuervo lleva una hogaza de pan envenenado que los monjes trataron de dar a San Benito.
Por encima de la cabeza son las palabras: Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (Cruz del Santo Padre Benito). Alrededor del borde son las palabras: Ejus en obitu nostro praesentia muniamus. (Que en nuestra muerte seamos fortalecidos por su presencia). Debajo de sus pies son las letras: EX SM CASINO MDCCCLXX (Desde santo Monte Cassino, 1880).
La parte del reverso: Esta dominada por una gran cruz, en cada uno de los cuatro lados de la cruz:

En línea vertical de la cruz:
C. S. S. M. L. (Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux): “Que la Santa Cruz sea mi luz”

Empezando por la parte superior, en el sentido del reloj, y alrededor del borde, aparecen las iniciales de la oracion de exorcismo:
