Vintage 1980s Jim Henson Muppets Miss Piggy Glamour Diva Sigma Ceramic Coin Bank
This listing is for a vintage Jim Henson Muppet handpainted ceramic piggy bank made in Japan by Sigma Ceramics featuring The Muppet's supreme Diva, Miss Piggy. This three dimensional figural bank features Miss Piggy in a pacific ocean blue evening gown with a red rose on her ample bosom which doubles as the bank's coin slot. The bank is in pre owned display only condition with the original manufacturer's sticker present and is unused. Manufactured sometime in the late 1970's through early 1980's by Tastesetter by Sigma, it measures approximately 8 inches tall.
The first Sigma pieces were released in 1978. Sigma collectibles included papier-mache Christmas ornaments and fourteen ceramic pieces, including the Miss Piggy teapot, the Gonzo sugar bowl, the Kermit creamer, Statler & Waldorf bookends, Kermit & Fozzie bookends, mugs, picture frames, and canisters.
The line continued through the late seventies and early eighties, exactly at the pinnacle of Miss Piggy's widespread fame as her line of fantasy calendars and magazine covers like "People" and "Life" were hitting the stands. Many of these individually hand painted ceramic pieces capture Miss Piggy's charm and charisma in a captivating manner.
