PROVENCE - COUNTY OF PROVENCE - I. CHARLES D'ANJOU
(1246-1285)
Charles (1226-1285) was the youngest son of Louis VIII and Blanche of Castile. He married Beatrice in 1246, the daughter of Raymond Berenger V of Provence. It is Count of Anjou, Maine and Provence (1246-1285), king of Sicily and Naples (1266-1285), titular king of Jerusalem (1277-1285). He lost Sicily in 1282 after the Sicilian Vespers who see the house of Aragon win in the island after the massacre of French.
