- MIZUNO JPX 921 Forged Chromoly Face PW, T-Zoid 52*, Faldo 56*, Iron Set
The Mizuno JPX921 irons were released for 2021, and the Mizuno JPX921 Forged irons are a wonder. Not only are they the first forged irons to use Chromoly, Mizuno's super-strong material, but they are also more forgiving than the JPX 919 Forged irons despite having an even more compact club head. The Mizuno JPX 921 Forged Iron Set includes great player's distance and game-improvement irons. These irons are perfect for a mid-handicap player who prefers a traditional look and an amazing feel.
They combine the playability characteristics of the JPX 921 Tour irons with the game improvement benefits of Chromoly from the JPX Hot Metal irons.
The Chromoly material gives the JPX 921 forged irons excellent feel, distance, look, and forgiveness in a forged iron for the first time.
in the JPX921 irons, Mizuno has essentially created a range that caters for every ability of golfer. It claims the JPX921 Forged model will provide the most significant gains over the previous JPX919 model.
Changes in the design of each of the irons means Mizuno has made adjustments to the lofts. The Forged, Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro are all one degree stronger in the 4-8 irons while the Tour model remains unchanged at 34° in the 7-iron. We tested all four irons on the Flightscope X3 launch monitor in the same Dynamic Gold 120 x100 shafts we tested the JPX919 models in.
Mizuno still set the benchmark when it comes to forged golf clubs and these cracking heads have pretty big faces and a lovely strong but thin top edge. Being two fairly good ball strikers we loved the feel and shape that the shots had, but would readily accept they would not be quite as forgiving if you were having a bad swing day. The short-irons have a lovely shape and design and would be simple to use around the greens from all situations.
-
- Distance: These irons are great for adding distance due to the larger style head and lower lofts, which help increase the ball speed to maximize distance.
- Forgiveness: The forged irons have a stability frame that moves some of the mass towards the toe of the club to create a larger center of mass and sweet spot to allow for longer, straighter golf shots.
- Feel: The irons feel great for a completely forged design and have the same great feel I can always rely on from Mizuno irons. Well-hit golf shots feel so soft and responsive with these forged irons.
- Sound: The sound is very good on well-struck shots; however, on mishits, the clubs tend to sound a little clunky but still an overall great-sounding irons.
- Workability: Due to the larger head and stability frame, these irons are not as easily workable as the tour version or a more blade-style, small-head golf club. However, compared to other game improvement irons, the Mizuno JPX921 Forged Iron Set provides much more workability.
- Adjustability: There is no ability for adjustment with the irons besides when they are first purchased.
- Shaft Feel: All Project X iron shafts feel amazing and are why many top tour players like Rory McIlroy trust them.
- Shaft Performance: The 6.5 rifle shaft is designed to be lower spinning and geared for higher swing speeds which is perfect for me.
- Aesthetic Appeal: These irons are perfect for the player who wants added forgiveness and distance while still having a very aesthetically pleasing and traditional look and design.
- Launch Angle: These irons launch perfectly to have a piercing ball flight while still having a great angle of descent into greens to stop quickly.
- Spin: The Mizuno JPX 921 Forged Iron Set will not spin as much as a blade-style, small-head iron would, but they have much more spin than traditional game-improvement and distance irons. They are one of the best spin irons aside from a blade-style iron.
Review: "I’ve never hit a better-feeling iron. “Soft” seems insufficient. They launch high and easily. Produce excellent distance on center contact and don’t lose much on off-center contact. They have a high, piercing trajectory. Yet, are easy to flight down and work in either direction. All in all we were very impressed with the performance throughout the JPX921 range."
