It is a beautiful perennial that gets bright red flowers and great tropical looking green foliage.  This was found at an old homestead in zone 6, where they survived for many years.  The variety name is not available, but they are likely an old heirloom variety, but even without a specific name, they are beautiful and cold hardy.  These beautiful exotic plants are hardy to USDA zone 6, possibly colder, and they grow best in full sun to part shade.  They would make excellent additions to your rare plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
