500 OLD PIGEON RANCH JUST AFTER THE BATTLE IN 1862
In 1540 when Coronado, the Spanish Explorer, came thru, part of his army camped here at the Old Well the winter of 1540-41-here at this Indian Village is where he got his Indian guides that took him out on the plains. Here is where Coronado's historians wrote the first History of Interior of U. S. A. in 1540-75 years before the Mayflower landed-250 years be- fore the Americans came into this part of the country.
This old well, which the Indians had and were using many hundred years before the white man came, is just a little spring which has been dug out and walled up with rock by the Indians long before the white man was ever heard of, and its wonderful pure cold water is one of the finest drinking waters in U. S. A. When you pass the Old Pigeon Ranch be sure and get a drink and see the oldest well in U. S. A.
