Originally published in 1827, Sherwood's Gazetteer was the first published in Georgia. The 4th edition was published just before the onset of the Civil War. Covers all the usual information about counties, towns, cities, state statistics, antiquities and history. In the section on population, matter of factly states: "Value of 443,364 slaves, $271,620,405."
