Aksel Holmsen Vintage 1940’s Enamel / Sterling Calla Lily Brooch

AKSEL HOLMSEN began his company in Sandefjord Norway in 1932 apprenticing before, under David Anderson.

This superbly executed piece is composed of gold plated silver with orange enameled Guilloche and Basse Taille details.  It is reminiscent of cloisonne.

The Calla Lily is well executed in a dimensional and detailed representation.

The pin/brooch is reminiscent of an orange calla lily.

The tendrils of the flower flow over the leaves. It almost appears to be animated.

It is in excellent condition. The pin is superbly hinged and engages a graceful curled clasp.

It measures over 2 1/2” x  1 1/2”and weighs 13.3 grams.

At the base of the back of the pin is stamped, “MADE IN NORWAY STERLING” over the geometric AKSEL hallmark of two abstract crossed jewelers pliers and next to this is stamped “925S.”

This is a superb example of Holmsen with no peer on the web.

The Calla Lily is a great symbol representing:

1. Rites of Passage -life-fertility

2. Christ Resurrection -Easter

3. Demise but hope for grieving

4.Magnificent  beauty

5.Designated flower for 6th wedding anniversary

6.Purity

7.Faith

What a superb gift for Mother’s Day or many occasions.

It will elegantly arrive gift - ready in a padded jewelry store box.

It has been professionally cleaned and treated with museum Renaissance microcrystal wax.

It comes from the estate of an avid collector/ dealer who had a good eye for quality and style.

Put away in the 1970’s but dates from the 1940’s.

NOTE: The orange calla lily is a rare representation. Add this to your floral pin collection.
