Brand new factory sealed 2-disc set of 6 Black & White midnight movies. More than likely full frame for the era. Out Of Print (OOP) and no longer being manufactured.
BRAIN that WOULDN'T DIE: A great, absurd movie with Jason Evers as a brilliant surgeon whose fast driving causes an accident that decapitates his fiancee' Jan (Virginia Leith). He wraps her head in his jacket and takes it to his upstate New York "mansion", attaches some coils and puts it in a film developing tray. The living head wants to die but talks too much, so he puts tape over her mouth and goes body-shopping.
Driving around in his convertible eyeing asses isn't good enough, so the Doc visits a really stacked model who poses for photographers in a leopard-print bikini. Because her face is scarred and he promises to fix it, she agrees to go to the lab. When Jan finds out what's going on, she uses her newfound telepathic power to tell the giant pinhead mutant in the closet to break out. The creature tears the arm off the crippled assistant, kills the doctor by taking a big bloody bite out of his shoulder (and spitting it out), and sets the lab on fire. The blood-covered monster rescues the model as Jan laughs.
HEAD: Michael Simon has invented serum Z. He uses it to keep a dog's head alive. His new co-worker, Dr. Ood, cuts off Simon's chubby head and keeps it alive with the serum. Dr. Ood then puts the head of a crippled pretty nurse onto the perfect body of a stripper. The nurse/stripper combo falls in love with the stripper's boyfriend, who recognizes the nurse but not the body!
ATOMIC BRAIN: A wealthy widow hires a mad doctor to transfer her brain into a beautiful young body. Three young European girls are imported as candidates but the doctor and his assistant stray from their mission. Two girls become zombies and the third has a cat's brain placed in her head.
INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN: The opening scene of a doctor trying to stick a needle into the arm of a butcher (Lon Chaney Jr.) only to have it bend is so good that it's shown twice. As an electrocuted convict brought back to life, Chaney is silent and intense as he visits his old stripper girlfriend and kills the ex-cohorts who betrayed him. He ends up hiding in the sewer system and having his face burned by flamethrowers. This classic trashy film is narrated 'Dragnet'-style by Ross Elliott as a detective.
AMAZING TRANSPARENT MAN: It's a routine crime film grafted onto an invisible man plot. Mysterious soldier of fortune Paul Krenner breaks an incredibly-named safecracker Joey Faust from prison, for the sole purpose of having him steal nuclear materials from a heavily guarded government installation. To facilitate this Krenner has imprisoned German scientist Dr. Ulof and his barely-seen daughter, forcing him to perfect, kind of, his invisibility invention. Faust is rendered invisible by Ulof's invention, though the career criminal would rather be robbing banks and maybe run off with Krenner's girlfriend, Laura.
MANSTER: In Japan, a man in a skinny gorilla suit kills some women in a bath house. Blood splatters on the wall. Up in the mountains, in a remote cave full of giant mushrooms and plants, we discover that he's a mutant. Dr. Suzuki says "You were my brother. You were an experiment that didn't work out. I'm sorry!" and shoots him. An ugly, bug-eyed mutant screeching in a cage is his wife.
Meanwhile, Larry Stanford, an American journalist shows up. His drink is drugged, and the doctor jabs a hypo into his shoulder. Back in Tokyo he gets drunk on sake, goes behind closed doors with four geishas, and misses his flight home. Suzuki sends his beautiful, obediant assistant, Tara, to further corrupt him in a mineral bath. Unshaven and hung over, the reporter ignores his worried, pleading wife, who arrives from New York.
A priest is killed in a temple by a werewolf-type hand and two women are murdered on the street. In his room Stanford sees an eyeball on his shoulder!!! (a high point of screen surrealism). Soon a small, scary extra head grows there. Both of his heads become uglier, with big teeth and bulging eyes. He kills a psychiatrist. The climax takes place near a volcano. Behind a tree the MANSTER painfully splits into Stanford and another skinny ape man. They fight and both fall into the volcano!
See 'Army of Darkness' for a tribute scene to this movie.
