Primative smooth plane for cabinetry or finish carpentry.  Only metal is the plane iron which has no maufacturers markings and appears to be hand made/hand cut out of stock. The shape of the cutting edge is true and precise but the rest of the plane is not stamped out or cut by machine, it is somewhat irregular is if hand cut.  The wooden block is 9 1/2 inches long, 3 3/8 inches high and 7/8 inches wide.  The ends are stamped with a very fait Atkin Hayward marking.  Atkin was a British tool maker and Hayward was American tool maker so probably manufactured in the U.S. by Hayward under some type of licence agreement with Atkin.  The very basic stamping suggests mid to late 1800's manufacture as most Atkin and or Hayward made in the early 1900's had more elaborate manufactuing identification stamps on the wood as well as the blade.  The plane is still useable for the purposes it was made. It shows scuffing and markings typical for it’s age and use.  Please see the pictures for the most accurate condition of the product.
