Marilyn Monroe, Marx Brothers, Raymond Burr. Groucho leads the pack as a detective searching for stolen diamonds while Harpo shoplifts food to sustain a group of young actors trying to put on a show. A young and dazzling Marilyn Monroe shines even brighter than the Romanoff diamonds. Love Happy is certainly not great art, it's not a movie for anybody other than die-hard Marx Brothers fans to watch. Harpo wrote the story, and the movie got made in large part to provide Chico with some money. If I recall my Marx Brothers biographies correctly Groucho and Harpo agreed to make the movie only if they controlled all of Chico's money from it so that it could be invested well to provide for his family and so that he couldn't drink and gamble it all away while chasing other women. It's very interesting to see a very young Raymond Burr in his pre-Perry Mason days, and Marilyn Monroe has a throw-away walk-on part (it was her first movie supposedly). The gags are old, the jokes occasionally hark back to earlier movies, but they're the Marx Brothers and it is so much fun to see them in another movie.
