RARE DYNATAC 8100L MICRO RED LED Like New with Accessories

Martin Cooper working with Motorola in the 1960’s developed the first truly self contained portable cell phone. In 1973 he made the FIRST CELL CALL to his competitor at BELL from 6th Ave in NYC.  It was not until SEPT. 1983 that these phones received FCC/IEEE approval for public use of cell phones.  

These DynaTAC (dynamic adaptive total area coverage) employed an 800 AMPS carrier (advanced mobile phone signal) supplied by the carrier. At that time Cellular One, Ameritech, etc were all loosely under the Bell and AT&T conglomerates. Mostly in the New York, Chicago, DC area. The phones cost $3995 (appx. $11750 today) and 42 cents/minute (today $1.25). A luxury and quality built all AMERICAN product.  

The cell phone changed Global culture and social media forever. It has been ranked by its impact along with the personal computer, car and self sustaining nuclear reactor..

Worthpoint (the collectors go-to), Forbes Business Magazine and Collectors weekly all feel that these early DynaTAC cell phones are sound techno collectible investments. An Apple 1 just sold by Heritage for $1,500,000.  They state condition, rarity and provenance are most important when investing. 

The phone offered for sale meets all the above criteria. It’s the Motorola DynaTAC 8100L dated 1987. 

It’s condition is 9.8/10 and though not the Flagship 8000X 1983-85 or the 

2nd flagship 8000S 1985-86 it comes in a close third.

4. Original 7.5V Motorola ni-cad battery SNN- 4016-A 144TZU STILL holds enough charge to turn on phone (8 hours charging). Labels intact and clear. Motorola logo on outside of computer beige case and all terminals corrosion free.

3. No service, roam, etc come on

4. Dials and gives a clear and audible beeping and says no service. 

5. Volume can be adjusted hi or low

6. No numbers stored. 

7. All numbers illuminate clearly on LED display .
