SEVRES Cup/Can
Louis Philippe, the last king of the French
Chateau des Tuileries, France

This cup  is in rare, excellent condition commemorating a couple and (actually) fit for a king.

Chateau des Tuileries
Sevres LP 1844
S37

When the Tuileries was burned down, the "aristocracy" and others with access to what was then a palace and royal business office, removed most of the porcelain to safeguard it from destruction.  Some were kept hidden for years while others were sold off. After the late 1800's and early 1900's when being imported to the US the Tuileries porcelain pieces were identified by there having a Made in France, or France, denotation imprinted on the back as required by US law.

The remaining porcelain, some of which were not decorated, were completed at various times and to different degrees depending upon whether or not it was a completed piece when it was stored away in France originally.

The Tuileries porcelain can be fully, partially or completely decorated at different times without there being markings to denote this.

This Sevres cup is back-stamped with the following:
Red   crowned circle   Chateau des Tuileries
Blue  circle with crowned LP insignia   Sevres 1844
Black oval surrounding S. 37.

The hand-painted cup depicts a courting couple in nature.
That image is surrounded by a hand-painted gold border which is slightly dimmed in luster.
The top rim and the foot is ringed in gold with no loss or fleabites.
There is a tiny dimple in the porcelain inside the base of the cup.
It has a white London handle with hand-painted gold trim.

In addition to the above details, the cup has no hairlines, repairs, chips, cracks or other defects.
