A late 18th or early 19th century Chinese Export Porcelain drum-form Tea Pot with twisted Strap Handle and straight spout made for the American Market. Like most early porcelain, the teapot is a very light gray in color rather than pure white. The iron red, blue & green decoration is all hand-painted. Note that the decoration around the edge of the lid matches the decoration around the top of the teapot, indicating that this is the original lid. (Often lids get damaged and replaced, resulting in a “marriage” of two unrelated pieces.) The finial is usually described as a berry although I think it looks more like a cauliflower.

Chinese porcelain is NOT my field of expertise, but I found several very similar teapots on the Internet that are almost identical in shape and decoration, although this one is slightly more decorated than most.

Approximately 9 1/4" across over handle and spout, 5 1/4" in diameter x 5 1/2" tall to finial (approximately 23.5cm x 13cm x 14cm).

GOOD ANTIQUE CONDITION - no chips or cracks, but there is an old repair to the handle. See close-up photos for details. Very little kiln spotting, so often found on export porcelain. One very small paint drip, original to manufacture, see close-up. Overall, in quite good condition for its age, being 200 to 250 years old.
