WWI, U.S. ARMY, OFFICER STYLE, COLLAR INSIGNIA, FIELD CLERK, BRONZE, PINBACK
Nice clean original, pinback with open loop catch.
As forerunners of Warrant Officers, field clerks were similar to commissioned officers, although they were not entitled to salutes from enlisted men. The round disk in the style of enlisted men’s insignia irked then, so before the first change to Special Regulation Number 41 was published in December1917, the clerks found relief in American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) General Order 50, 27 October 1917. By that order, army field clerks were to have a miniature of Adjutant Generals Department insignia below the crossed quill pens. These clerks were to wear officers uniforms wit no rank insignia and without the usual cuff braid on the officers brown service coat but with the officers US letters or variations.
