FRONT COVER
"PLACID FISHING POOL ON CIBECUE CREEK" BY ROBERT B. WHITAKER. Fishing a quiet stretch of trout water along Cibecue Creek, midway between Cibecue Indian village and White Spring Ranger Station on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. The land of Cibecue is reached by taking a gravel road west from U. S. 6o, about 17 miles north of Salt River Canyon. Heavy growth of mixed conifer and deciduous growth lines the stream bank, and it is not uncommon to surprise a mule deer drinking from the pretty brook as you wend your way upstream. The primitive road following the stream to its headwaters provides easy access to scenic spots like this. The word Cibecue is from the Apache meaning "reddish bottom land." Bronica-S camera; Ektachrome Professional; f. xi at I /125th sec.; Nikkor 2.8 ( polaroid filter) 7 5mm lens; July; bright day.
OPPOSITE PAGE
"NAVAJO MOUNTAIN AS SEEN FROM LAKE POWELL" BY JOSEF MUENCH. Lake Powell -- Glen Canyon National Recreation area, Arizona extending into Utah. This particular setting is just around the bend from Forbidden Canyon through which Rainbow Bridge is reached. A late April snow covering Navajo Mountain ( the legendary abode of the Navajo Indian War God) makes for a strong contrast between the blue waters and the red slickrock, so inherent to the entire shoreline of this man-made lake. 4x5 Linhof camera; Ekta-chrome; f.14 at i / i ooth sec.; 6" Xenar lens; April; sunny day.
