1792 P1C One Cent, Judd-1, Pollock-1, High R.6, SP45+ PCGS. CAC. Few coins are as historically important as the 1792 Silver Center cent. Although some 1792 patterns were struck earlier, in the basement of John Harper's sawmill, the Silver Center cent was the first issue struck within the confines of the First United States Mint. An innovative pattern, it was also the nation's first bimetallic coin. Only 12 examples are known to collectors, making the Silver Center cent a landmark rarity in the pattern series. One example is included in the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution, further reducing the availability of the issue. Heritage Auctions is privileged to present this important early pattern from Bruce Sherman's remarkable collection in this historic offering.
