This cute metal art work sculpture is of a Ladybug or Beetle and was handcrafted by the artist. It is signed on the lower portion of the top by the artist and it looks to be “Lesser” or “Lessu”, but I’ll leave the deciphering of the name up to you. This whimsical and fun specimen has lots of great detail to it. There are holes cut into the top to represent the spots, it has two antennae with indented edges, there are six legs and two cut out opening for the eyes. It has imperfections in the metal as you would expect in a hand crafted item. There is something very appealing; it almost has a personality of its own. It measures approximately 3 inches long, 2 inches wide and 1 ¼ inches tall.
It is in nice vintage condition and has a great older patina to the metal, with tarnishing and some slight discoloration to the natural finish. I’m not sure what the metal is, you can leave it as it is, or paint it with colors you would like for your décor. There is a tip missing from the bottom of one of the legs (see arrow in photo), but it doesn’t affect the sculpture and you would not notice unless you were looking for it. Please look at the enlarged photographs as they are part of the description and clearly show the condition and details.
This would make a great paperweight on a desk and a unique conversation starter. If you collect ladybugs or metal insects this is a perfect addition to your collection. It would be adorable sitting in a flower pot on your counter or decorating you window sill. This would be a fun stocking stuffer for anyone studying Entomology.
