This is a 1955 Detroit, Michigan encased 1954 silver Washington Quarter American Savings advertisement celebrating the 8th Anniversary of the Bank. It was produced as a keepsake for the eighth year anniversary of American Savings in Detroit in 1955. The encasement contains a quarter from the previous year, 1954. This bank is no longer in business; I was unable to find any information about it online. The encasement has a hole in it and was intended to be a key chain piece for account holders. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches in diameter. My father had this on his key chain for a number of years. It is hard to find encased quarters, pennies are much more common.
Front: AMERICAN SAVINGS – SAVE THE AMERICAN WAY – 1954 Silver Washington Quarter – 2 small eagles, one on each side with wings spread.
Back: AMERICAN SAVINGS – 8TH ANNIVERSARY – 1955 – DETROIT, MICH . – 2 small eagles, one on each side with wings spread.
The coin is tight in the encasement. The surrounding token and the coin both have some marks and scratches (see enlarged photos). Please remember this was used on a key chain and not stored in drawer. I have taken many photographs and they are part of the description. Please look at the pictures as they show the condition better than I can describe. I am not a coin collector and have no idea how to grade the condition of a coin. This is advertisement memorabilia, not a collector quality coin. I think the piece looks great and most of the marks only show with magnification.
