Vintage original 27 x 41 in. U.S. one-sheet poster from the classic 1950's drama/romance, THE RAINMAKER, released in 1956 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Joseph Anthony. Burt Lancaster co-stars as a con man during the Depression who promises rain to a desperate drought-ridden Kansas town as well as marriage to a local desperate spinster (Katharine Hepburn).
The image is dominated by a large color shot of co-stars Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn that encompasses the top 2/3 of the poster along with a black-and-white scene depicting pretty blonde Snookie Maguire (Yvonne Lime) and handsome Jim Curry (Earl Holliman) enjoying a playful moment together. Folded as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet poster is unbacked and unrestored in fine- condition with a Canadian censor stamp near Lime and Holliman, pinholes in the corners, and two diagonal creases on the top corners. The colors are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
William
Holden was originally cast as Bill Starbuck. After Holden backed
out, Burt Lancaster read about it in Hedda Hopper 's column
and phoned producer Hal B. Wallis. Lancaster agreed to star in Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957)
if he would get the role of Bill Starbuck in this film. Elvis
Presley tested for the role of Jim Curry while under contract
with Hal B. Wallis.
