Grimm's Fairy Tales & Other Wonderful Stories

Published by L.H. Walter, 1913

Condition: Good

This antiquarian children's book has stories by the Brothers Grimm, as well as selections by Hans Christian Andersen, Washington Irving and Mother Goose.  I've used the title on the title page, though the front cover title is Famous Fairy Tales for our Boys and Girls.   I believe this is the Grimm's Fairy Tales that was reprinted in Britain in 1941, containing four colour plates by Charles Folkard; this book also has four color plates, as well as over 100 b&w text engravings.  This book was intended as a lower-priced alternaticve to the generally lavish children's books of the time (the paper is lower quality, though the plates on better paper have been bound in).  The covers are paper glued over boards with cloth on the spine.  The book is dated 1911 on the copyright page, but the ffep has a Christmas inscription dated 1913, so, assuming the book was then new, I'm using  that date. (There is also newer writing on the front pastedown.) The cover corners are very worn; the edges also have areas of wear; the covers have rubbing and light scratching, particularly the back cover; the binding is secure; the pages  are ok, except for a number of corner creases and age toning.  A quite scarce edition.
