Ohio flint has been harvested by Native Americans for over 10,000 years. Flint Ridge is a deposit of flint approximately 3 x 9 miles. Today it is a state park. Native Americans east of the Rockies, quarried the flint from pits still visible today. They fashioned many different types of stone tools, weapons and jewelry from Ohio flint. This includes: knives, spear-points, fire-starters, tomahawks and arrowheads. Flint was vital to their survival. Flint ridge was considered neutral territory. One person or nation couldn't control resources that everyone needed. So, it was available to everyone. Today, access is limited.
