Showboat (1954-2000) Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada was built by William J. Moore of the Last Frontier and Kell Houssels of the Las Vegas Club. It was the first resort within Las Vegas city limits leased by a group of managers from the Desert Inn, including Moe Dalitz. The Showboat opened on September 3, 1954. In 1998, Harrah's Entertainment bought Showboat, Inc and sold it in 2000 to VSS Enterprises who renamed it as the Castaways.
