LIFE'S COVER: The U. S. CAVALRYMAN on this week's cover is Private Buster Hobbs, 19, of Headquarters Troop, First Cavalry Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. A cow- puncher in New Mexico before he enlisted in the Army last December, he now helps train new cavalry mounts. His horse, Gip, who appears with him on the cover, was an Oklahoma cow pony, has been in the cavalry a year.
