**GROWN ON OUR FARM HERE IN TENNESSEE** *Sweet Kumquat ‘Meiwa’ (Fortunella crassifolia)** Meiwa’ is known as the Sweet Kumquat with the typical golden-orange colored fruit that other kumquats have. Yet eating a ‘Meiwa’ kumquat is a delight unto itself. Pop the entire large gumball-sized fruit into your mouth and allow the sweet flavors to permeate your senses. ‘Meiwa’ is not available commercially like ‘Nagami’ (the oval kumquat) but they are easily grown in a home environment as long as you have a sunny window and keep the root system healthy by drying the soil a little between waterings. The highly fragrant blooms arrive in summer with fruit ripening during the winter, usually from December through April. This is the perfect plant to give you that vitamin C boost in the dead of winter. Our grafted plant blooms and fruits sooner. Hardy to Zone 7-B and higher for outdoors. Full sun, grows to 2-4' in container, minimum temperature indoors 50°, blooms all summer. Very Fragrant! Meiwa Kumquats are one of the most frost tolerant citrus trees around. This species produces exceptionally sweet fruits that have a more rounded shape than most Kumquats. Kumquat trees are generally grown for their ornamental value as well as their charming and tasty little fruits. The fruit can be eaten fresh, including the skin which is often the sweetest part. Slice them to add to lettuce or fruit salads, for flavoring beverages, or use to make jams and jellies. Utilize citrus trees in the landscape just like any ornamental tree. Give enough space that light is available from all sides, away from the shade of larger trees or buildings. A great plant for large patio containers where the fragrant flowers can be enjoyed and the fruit easily picked. Can also be grown indoors if space and ample sunlight can be provided.
