THE WIDE WIDE WORLD
by Elizabeth Wetherell (Susan Warner)
J.B. Lippincott & Co., 1873
Condition: Very Good-
The tale of a girl who learns, through hardship, the value of Christian forbearance, this was a very popular novel in the latter half of the 19th century, the first book by Susan Warner, for which she used the Wetherell pseudonym It was first pubished in the U.S. by Putnam in 1851. This copy is the earliest printing by Lippincott that I've found, so it may be the first as such. Originaly published in two volumes, it is complete in this one-volume edition of 694 pages. The covers are green decorated cloth, with gold decorations on the spine. The book has bent and modestly worn corners, with pages at the front and back similarly being bent at the corners. There is some wear at the spine ends and some page corner creases. The binding is okay for a book of this age. There is a little foxing and the pages are moderately yellowed. Still, a pretty decent copy.
