Item description
The GI P-38 Can Opener is the classic folding pocket can opener that U.S. troops carried with canned field rations from 1942 through the 1980s. At just 1.5 inches (38mm) folded, it is small enough to live on a dog tag chain or a keyring and still open a full-size can. The one-piece stamped steel body houses a folding carbon-steel blade, and a notch below the hinge locks the opener under the rim of the can so it "walks" around the lid with a steady twisting motion. The punched lanyard hole also lets you hang it from a paracord loop or suspend it for cleaning, and the same flat profile works as a flathead screwdriver, seam ripper, box cutter, or light pry tool in a pinch.
This is standard kit for survival tins, mess kits, camp kitchens, glove boxes, and bug-out bags, and it is the kind of proven field tool that GIs famously nicknamed the "John Wayne." Because it has no moving springs, batteries, or plastic parts to fail, it keeps working trip after trip. Add one to your EDC rotation, your hiking pack, or your emergency food supply, and you will always have a way to get a can open without hunting for a kitchen gadget.
GENUINE GI PATTERN - Built to the U.S. military folding pocket can opener pattern issued with canned field rations from 1942 through the 1980s.
POCKET-SIZE 1.5 INCH - Folds flat to roughly 1.5 inches (38mm), so it slips into a pocket, mess kit, survival tin, or bug-out bag without adding bulk.
STAMPED STEEL BUILD - One-piece steel body with a folding carbon-steel blade that hooks the can rim and walks around the lid with a simple twist-and-bite motion.
NOTCHED HOOK DESIGN - The notch just below the hinge keeps the opener hooked under the rim of the can so it tracks the lid instead of slipping off.
LANYARD HOLE CARRY - Punched hole accepts a dog tag chain, keychain, or paracord loop, and the tool doubles as a flathead screwdriver, seam ripper, and pry tool.
