Item description
ORIGINAL STOCK CERTIFICATE FOR TEN SHARES OF THE ARGOSY CORPORATION
Made Out to Director John Ford
Number 2; dated August 14, 1939.
8 1/2" by
11" format certificate printed in green, black, and grey with typed
details;
hand SIGNED by the Secretary and VP.
Mild creases from folding,
two tiny short marginal tears, minor soiling, else very good.
Among the historic independent film company's earliest
existing stock certificates.
Following the success of STAGECOACH, Ford
formed independent Argosy Pictures with producer Merian C. Cooper. Some of the director's
best films were Argosy productions, including THE QUIET MAN, FORT
APACHE and SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON. The company was dissolved in 1956.
This is one of many interesting items we acquired from John Ford's estate.
