An historical young adult novel featuring a sixteen-year-old girl in the 1830s who visits Illinois and discovers frontier living is difficult, many people are uneducated, and the town has divided views on slavery, with some runaway slaves being protectively hidden.
An attractive, presentable first edition.
Fine in key-lime linen with black embossed titles to the spine, upper page edges blue; in a near fine price-clipped dust jacket illustrated by W.T. Mars, with a few shelf-edge tears, and with a touch of yellowing to the spine panel.
