This is one of the most beautiful console and mirror sets I?ve ever had. It?s antique Asian Chinoiserie look is perfect for today?s decors whether your style is Asian or not. It looks incredible with everything from mid-century modern to traditional and everything in between. It would even look awesome in your industrial loft! The set is comprised of a tall narrow and shallow console table and tall narrow mirror, which is just right for a small entry! Both are heavily lacquered in black and deeply hand carved with Asian figures and florals. Some of the figures and scenes are colored with Chinese red, greens, and golds. The carvings are in panels on the front and ends of the table and the top of the mirror. The mirror also has a gorgeous carved edge around the complete frame. We believe this to be mid-19th to early 20th century but cannot be certain. It could be older but definitely is not newer. Its lacquer finish has a handsome patina that can only happen from age and use. Its natural distressing is simply stunning. Make this delightful antique set yours!! The House Of Howald plate gives some unique insight into this pieces history. Ferdinand Howald American was a businessman and an art collector who lived in Columbus, Ohio. He began collecting in 1913, and within a decade was known as a major collector of American modern art. His home housed his collection. An early and discriminating buyer of progressive and modern American work, he bequeathed the cream of his collection to the Columbus (Ohio) Museum of Art. He also contributed substantially to the costs of building the Museum, which opened as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts in 1931 with a show of his collection. The House itself holds a bit more significance. In the Film "I Am Wrath" with John Travola, the house was the primary location of filming for most sets and was featured as the Governor's Mansion in the closing scenes.
