30s Evans Rhinestone Compact Mayfair Vanity and 16 similar items

The brassy gold tone plated oval lid has a cool leafy embellished border; hammered finish with a leaf motif at its center adorned with three faux emerald-green glass tall cabochons. Inside is a surprise – a compact that has a powder compartment, a polished lid covering (acts as an unbreakable mirror) a MAYFAIR cheek color (imprinting still shows faintly) and a thin pad to apply it with; the powder compartment appears to have never been utilized (could also be a hiding place for a little mad money?) All compartments close securely. The body of the bag is lined with a golden taupe silk fabric which shows no stains, rips, nor tears. The bag is suspended from a 4 ” loop woven mesh as a wrist handle to free the hands for dancing! It could also be worn with a belt through it. Mesh bag is 5 ” x 3 ”; bag lid/compact is 2 ” x 2 ” oval; the mesh is intact, no disconnections, all the tiny panels are bright gold that sparkles in the light; the top has a “scratch” that is visible in my pictures and minor scruffs that are mentioned only for transparency in the listing because they are barely visible. Overall, it is in excellent, vintage, wearable condition. “Evans is for Elegance” was the advertising campaign slogan, pictured on page 139 of “Collectors Encyclopedia of Compacts” by Laura Mueller, 1994.
