Item description
The authentic hand-crafted Tibetan Thangka artwork depicts Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva. Chenrezig is highly esteemed as a Buddhist Bodhisattva and represents universal compassion rather than being solely an object of worship. He symbolizes the compassion of all Buddhas and is believed to lend an ear to the supplications of all living beings, providing comfort during times of hardship and adversity, irrespective of their faith or origins.
In a famous Buddhist story, Chenrezig vows to be selfless, committing to work tirelessly until all sentient beings are free from samsara, the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. His eleven heads and a thousand arms spread around him represent this selfless deed, signifying his steadfast dedication to helping all beings. He earns profound admiration and respect from all who learn about his tale.
Chenrezig is a figure of profound spiritual significance in Tibetan Buddhism. The phrase "Om Mani Padme Hum" has six syllables and is closely linked to Chenrezig. When Chenrezig's name is spoken or contemplated, it is believed to evoke his compassionate presence and assistance. Chenrezig is revered as the guardian of Tibet, and it is thought that the Dalai Lama embodies his spirit as a living Buddha, underscoring his crucial spiritual significance. Chenrezig's importance in Tibetan Buddhism commands profound respect and admiration from its adherents.
This Thangka painting is a rich tapestry of symbolism. It depicts him in a holy gesture with his two front hands clasped in front of his jewel-draped heart. His upper right hand holds his special symbol, a crystal akshamala or rosary, a symbol of the never-ending cycle. His left-hand grasps a white lotus, representing his ability to liberate sentient beings from the turmoil of suffering and infernal realms, guiding them to the pristine realms of enlightenment. The symbolism embodied in his silk attire, the lotus petals on which he sits, and the meditative "diamond pose" with crossed legs contribute layers of meaning to the artwork.
The term "Bodhisattva" is associated with two main concepts in Buddhism. In Theravada and some Mahayana traditions, it denotes an individual committed to attaining Buddhahood, emphasizing personal enlightenment. In contrast, certain Mahayana traditions refer to someone who consciously delays their enlightenment to assist others, emphasizing selfless service to aid others in their spiritual path.
When we express compassion or experience love from any being, be it human or animal, we are offered a glimpse of our connection with Chenrezig.
