Item description
This United States First Day Cover (FDC) features the Scott #1075 3-cent stamp issued in 1957 commemorating the Virginia of Sagadahock and the 350th anniversary of the first merchant ship built in America. The stamp depicts a sailing ship and includes the inscription "1607 Shipbuilding 1957" along with "The Virginia of Sagadahock" and "Popham Colony." The postmark clearly shows the official First Day of Issue cancellation with the date August 15, 1957, and the city of Bath, Maine. The cancellation includes the text "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" in three lines next to the circular date stamp.
