Item description
This United States First Day Cover (FDC) features the 4-cent Noah Webster stamp, Scott #1071, issued on October 16, 1958. The postmark clearly shows the official First Day of Issue cancel from West Hartford, Connecticut, marking the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Noah Webster. The envelope includes a magenta cachet depicting a portrait of Noah Webster alongside an open book, with text reading "200th Anniversary of the Birth of Noah Webster First Day Cover." The cachet is initialed "HF" at the bottom left, indicating the cachet maker, though no full name is printed on the envelope.
The stamp block of four is canceled with a horizontal "First Day of Issue" postmark. The cover is addressed to Joseph Simek of Gates Mills, Ohio, with a return address printed on the back flap for William J. Kolak of Cleveland, Ohio. This collectible FDC is a fine example for collectors interested in 1950s U.S. philately, commemorative stamps, and historical American figures. It offers a clear, well-inked postmark and a visually appealing portrait cachet, making it a desirable addition for thematic collections focused on American history or educational figures.
